What is Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)?

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) is a Government grant for UK students with disabilities who are enrolled on higher education courses.

DSA grants help meet the extra costs students can face as a result of a disability, specific learning difficulty or health condition and are aimed at helping disabled people to study on an equal basis with other students.

Grants don’t depend on your household income and it is paid on top of the standard student finance package. You don’t have to pay it back. The grant allowance is assessed on an individual basis for full-time or part-time higher education students, with more allocated to support the highest levels of need.

If you are eligible, the Disabled Students’ Allowance is worth up to £5,849 for specialist equipment for the entire course. More is available for a Non-Medical Helper (NMH) to train and support you in using the equipment or software supplied.

Assessment Centres

If you qualify for Disabled Students’ Allowance you will need to have a Needs Assessment. This web page will help you find the centre nearest to you.
